Reduce your stress.

Take the time to identify what is causing you stress in life. If you're taking on too much, consider giving yourself a lighter load. If you're having problems at home or work, focus on those problems first. You may notice that solving your day-to-day problems will directly help you solve your insomnia at night.

Step 1: Take out a piece of paper and pen and write down what is bothering you. This alone will bring to the surface things that are keeping you awake and frustrated. Seeing them in writing rather than just in your head can help you immensely.

Step 2: Next to each item on the list, write down how you will solve the problem.

Step 3: Don't wait. Take action today to start relieving what's causing your sleepless nights.

Wind down at the end of the day.

If you feel anxious at the end of the day and have trouble falling asleep, it's important to take time to relax and wind down. Decide that the 30-60 minutes before bedtime is a time for relaxation for you. Instead of TV, food, alcohol, or caffeine, try a bath, journaling, prayer, or meditation.
  • Release your mind from heavy thoughts or important decisions before bed.
  • Engage in an activity that you personally find relaxing and make sure you do it every night. Bedtime routines are important to overcome insomnia.

Melatonin & Herbal Remedies.

Melatonin, Valerian Root and others are popular natural remedies for insomnia. I personally take Schiff Melatonin Ultra which includes 3mg Melatonin + 25mg L-Theanine + 25mg GABA + Chamomile & Valerian Extracts. Give it a week or two before saying it's not effective.

Works like a charm! I've taken it for about 2+ years now.
