Stuck In A Rut? How To Overcome A Stagnant Life

"How do I get out of this year long rut?"

"I've been in a slump for so long I don't know what to do."

"I need an answer and a way out of this prolonged rut."

"I'm beyond hopeless and tired. I need some help!"

Do you feel like you're stuck in a rut? Are you struggling in your love life, career, friendships, or passion?

What, specifically, is bothering you and why? What caused you to fall into this rut?

It's time to take action to fix the problem. First, let's identify the areas of your life that feel "off" to you.

Take some time to reflect on what's bothering you and why. Once you discover why you are stuck in a rut, it becomes much easier to overcome a stagnant life and move forward.

Having a Goal Will Help You Get Out Of Your Rut

It's important to have goals in your life.

Why?

Because it focuses your energy onto a bigger picture. When you have a purpose for your actions, you begin to see those little steps being important building blocks for your end goal. Your life will stop feeling stagnant and stale when you have an end goal in mind at all times.

Here are some tips for setting goals and getting out of your rut:

  • Write your goals down on a piece of paper and keep them handy.
  • Make your goals attainable. If you have lofty goals, break them up into smaller achievable goals. Sometimes one big goal is overwhelming and scary. It's where many people get stuck in a rut and never get started.
  • Always state your goals in a positive fashion (i.e. "I will be free of cigarettes forever..." instead of: "I will quit smoking...")
  • Be as detailed as you can when planning out your goals. Write them in a step-by-step fashion.
  • Don't give in to procrastination!
  1. What's your big goal?
  2. What are your smaller goals that will lead up to achieving your big goal?
  3. How long, realistically, will it take you to achieve your goal and get out of your rut?

Take Action To Get Out Of Your Rut

Once you've discovered the parts of your life that need changing, and you have your goals written down and organized, it's time to take action. When things have hit a point of stagnation there is no other choice. You have to take swift action and do it fast.

STOP thinking, planning, or worrying all day long.

It will not do anything positive for your life if you don't act.

Here are some strategies to keep in mind as you put your goals into action:

Don't hold yourself back from fixing the problem.

If you already know what's holding you back, it's time to fix the problem so you can take action. Is fear holding you back? If so, it'd be in your best interest to master your fears. A life full of stagnation because of fear will do more harm than good.

What's holding you back? How are you going to move forward?

Be consistent in your action.

Many people will crack down on changing their life and then drift back into a world of stagnation. Once you've started to take action, make sure it's consistent action. This is the only way you'll reach your life goals.

What is your plan to remain consistent?

What can you do right now to break out of your rut?

You already have your goal in place and it's broken up into small pieces. Ask yourself what you can accomplish right now to put yourself a positive step closer toward your goal. It doesn't matter if you only have 10 minutes, there is sure to be something you can accomplish in that time period.

Answer the question above...

Make time to unwind every day.

It's easy to get excited and eager about your new goals and dreams, but ensure you schedule some "me time" as well. You need to be able to get a good night's sleep and rejuvenate your body and mind. Otherwise, you risk physical and mental exhaustion, which will only bring you back to stagnation!

When is your daily "me" time?

Take notes to help you move forward.

Be sure to take notes of your observations and tweak your actions along the way. Doing so will help you figure out what's working for you and what's not.

What's working? What's not?

Picture Yourself Out Of Your Rut & Happy Again

At the end of every day, picture yourself having broken the chain of stagnation. Even if you're not quite there yet, it's important to remember that it's possible and likely when you're willing to change.

Can you see yourself happy and joyful?

Set the scene, where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with?

Sometimes selflessly helping someone else actually helps you.   But that can wear on you too.

I just couldn't take the same old tired and boring situations anymore.  So I started thinking about the word "busy."  One thought led to another.  I began writing about "innovation."  Long story short, the writing composition turned into an ebook, "Time to Innovate."

I read it over and over to myself, it  actually helped me out of my funk.  I'm praying that it will do the same for millions of others  before it is too late.   Even though it's an eye-opening, jaw-dropping shocking piece of truth.  I'm not changing a thing in it, because it helped overcome  outs with stagnation.
