What Do You Believe In?

Beliefs are what make people. Try to figure and think it out. You do the things you do because of your belief in something.

Makes sense, huh. There are many forms and types of religion all around the world because people have different sets of beliefs about God and the existence of heaven, which is the afterlife.

Religion teaches people to basically do good everyday, because doing so is like investing or saving up for the future.

That future being the afterlife, which can either be heaven or hell, the ultimate punishment for sinners.

You are doing good and righteous things probably not because you would want to get to heaven when you die, but because you believe that doing so will set out a good example to others so you can collectively build a good and righteous society and community.

Physical beliefs

There are what are called by experts as physical beliefs. These beliefs are characterized by faith and beliefs in things that can lead to material gains and benefits.

Also, physical beliefs are sometimes called theories in the scientific world. For example, scientists believe that there is a tenth planet in the solar system. That belief can proven over time, and the possibility is far greater.

Mental beliefs

There are beliefs which are more on the mental or abstract aspects. Blind faith is one of them.

For example, people keep on believing that there is heaven and hell. They also believe that there is one God who created everything living and non living in the universe.

But no one can sanely claim that he or she has actually seen God. But still, people still keep on believing. That is blind faith, because even if there is a greater possibility that there actually is no God, people blindly believe that there is.

Superstitions

Another set of beliefs can still be related to religion. Superstitions. They are actually the product and descendants of pagan beliefs. Paganism is an ancient religion, which had existed before mankind organized religion and was introduced to concept of a single God.

Superstitions are abundant not just in the Catholic and third world countries but also even in the developed and Western ones.

For example, the belief that 13 is an unlucky number is so proliferated, that there are actually buildings around the world that do not contain a 13th floor. The superstition and the action it prompted can really be a good candidate for absurd and annoying beliefs but it really happens.

New Age thinking

Another set of beliefs that are rampantly adopted and practiced all around the world is what is called New Age thinking.

New age thinking or religion is somehow a spin off of the Chinese feng shui. The practice centers on the belief of energies that affect and influence life and destiny.

Through feng shui, there are lucky numbers, luck dates and even lucky houses. The center of the belief is material wealth anyways, and of course people want more money especially nowadays. Thus, there is a great following for new age thinking.
